THE LAY AWAKES is an acoustic pop duo based in Brooklyn, NY. However, both members hail from north of the border: ANNA PADDOCK (keys, vocals) has Manitoba roots, but grew up in various states and provinces, and her compositions have taken her around the world as she has collaborated with dancers, film directors, artists, and fellow songwriters. Anna studied music at Trinity Western University and then received her Masters in Music Theory and Composition from New York University. During this time, Anna began writing songs, released her first solo album in 2013, toured both in Canada and the US, and most notably opened for Paul Simon at New York’s Beacon Theater. Most recently she formed the band “The Lay Awakes” with PATRICK ANDERSON (guitars, vocals). Patrick grew up down the road from Bissell Park on the main street of Fergus. He studied music at Vancouver Community College and at Hunter College in Manhattan. Patrick spent many years representing Canada in wheelchair basketball and is a three-time Paralympic gold medalist. In February, 2015, The Lay Awakes toured the west coast and released their award winning debut single “Great Divide”. They are currently finishing an EP to be released in June, 2015.
