While you'll typically finding her hosting a radio show in the big city, Raina has become a fixture on the Riverfest stage.
It's her fifth year emceeing so she's become an honorary local. She's even slugged Labatt 50s at the Legion in the middle of winter.
Who is she looking forward to seeing? "Flaming Lips but also Donovan Woods but ALSO... Weaves and Beaches ... and Born Ruffians ... this is not a very good answer."
Lana is a music journalist, broadcaster and educator, and is fixated on independent Canadian music, the arts, and is an advocate for children’s literacy running A Good Book Drive Toronto! You can hear Lana Gay on Indie88 every weekday from 1:30 - 6 p.m.
She's proud to hail from Leamington, Ontario where she was raised on Motown music and Hungarian food (an underrated combo, really.)
In Lana's words: "I can't wait to be there for the wild party that is a Rich Aucoin set, watch the amazing Land of Talk, and end the night singing along to Blue Rodeo under the stars!"
Adrian Jones is a classically trained multi-instrumentalist performer, teacher and singer-songwriter. As a sideman and session player, Adrian has appeared on over 50 albums playing anything with strings on it.
He's also perhaps the busiest man at Riverfest. In addition to emceeing, Adrian is leading the Adrian Jones Music School Rivercital (which features emerging young musicians from his music school) and guiding a ukulele workshop.
Oh yeah, and his favourite live band of all time is here: The Flaming Lips. You'll catch him screaming front row centre.
Athena McQueen is a drag queen and MC from Guelph. Athena made her debut as a drag queen at Kitchener's former Club Renaissance in the summer of 2011.
Since then she has become the resident queen of The eBar in downtown Guelph, where she hosts Karaoke, Dirty Bingo, and RuPaul's Drag Race viewing parties.
Athena also works with children at Drag Queen Storytime at the Guelph Public Library, as well as attending Rainbow Camp (a summer camp for LGBTQ+ youth) as a makeup teacher and performer. She's looking forward to seeing Bonnie Trash, Weaves and Carly Rae Jepsen.
Carly was behind the mic for years in Calgary before she decided to stop showering and travel the world. With a failed didgeridoo career, a head full of unintentional dreads and 30 countries under her belt, she ended up in Torontoand now hosts a daily radio show at 102.1 The Edge. You can hear her weekdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
She's looking forward to seeing "The Flatliners, The Flaming Lips, and The Beaches. (All the bands really, but those are some real great bands, man….)"
It's her first year emceeing at Riverfest so be sure to show her a good time!
LEON OBRASCOVS & EMMETT WATTERS
The barons of The Boo Radley Project are back for another year of joint hosting at Riverfest. They host together because they are too scared to do it alone. But damn, do they make a dynamic duo.
They are sad that Monster Truck is not here again but they will suffice with The Flaming Lips, RALPH, Carly Rae Jepsen, Wolf Parade and The Bearskins.
Oh and probably that yell that they do on Storage Wars when they are bidding. They call it a Barry Blast but Barry's not even the one that does it.
Haydn's a journalist, longtime Riverfest host and a local boy. If he really tried, he could probably throw a tennis ball from his family home's backyard and it would hit Bissell Park.
He's been involved in all 10 Riverfests in various capacities, from head of sponsorship to performing with his band The Boo Radley Project. Though he lives in the big city, he misses Elora dearly and helps organize the festival year round as communication coordinator. On festival weekend, he heads up the artisan, social media and emcee squads.
He has been trying to get Carly Rae Jepsen to the festival since the day E•MO•TION was released, so you'll be catch him singing along to every word. He's also looking forward to confetti showers at The Flaming Lips and Rich Aucoin's shows and getting a mosh pit started at Moon Hooch.
