Formerly known as the drag queen "Athena McQueen", Mya has been performing, producing, and hosting shows in the Wellington & Waterloo regions forover a decade. In her time as a drag queen Mya worked with The eBar, Rainbow Camp, Steel Rails, University of Guelph, ARCH, and The Making Box. A combination of her cheeky comedy, eye for striking visuals, and having her finger on queer and pop culture makes her a unique and creative force in both the performing arts world and in nightlife. After taking a hiatus during the pandemic, Mya appeared as Mrs. Puff in the RCMPI production of “The SpongeBob Musical”, and has rebranded herself as Mya Hicks Special Events. Mya approaches a performance the same way that she does her events: make it BIG! Mya has been an emcee at the last three Riverfests and is honoured to be performing and hosting her own after party with a trans icon!!

RIVER QUEEN: Let’s go down to the river to SLAY! River Queen is a colourful, electric, campy queer experience. Category is: retro swamp monster glamour (but make it fashion). With visuals created by Mya and Junglecat spinning up a banging set of beloved dance pop, hyperpop and R&B queer anthems all night long, you’ll be feeling the River Queen fantasy.
